1. This photograph was taken by John Vachon in Manchester, Georgia in May of 1938. http://lcweb2.loc.gov/pnp/ppmsc/00200/00210r.jpg

2. This photograph was taken outside in a dingy back of a building. The lighing doesn't look to bright. The location seems to be rural because there are only 5 people in this photograph. It looks like it is about 3 in the afternoon.

3. In this photograph, I see 5 people. There are two boys that look about 16 and 2 other men that are about 40. All of the men are African Americans. When I first looked at this photograph, I saw the signs that said Colored men and Colored waiting room.

4. In this photograph, there is a businness of some sort where blacks can't be with whites. The condition looks very dirty. Blacks and whites can't even be together. Surrounding the structure are two telephone poles and a automobile.

5. This photograph gives off a very dark vibe because the men do not look happy. This is a negative photograph because all men can’t wait in the same room. The men have sad expressions on their faces. The picture looks like it was taken at about 4 o’clock in the afternoon and it is light.

6. This photograph is very dark becuase the colored men have to wait in a different part than white people. This photograph is negative because of all of the mens faces and because the buliding doesn't look too good.

7. Write two questions that you might ask the photographer or the subjects of the picture if you had the opportunity to learn more about the photograph or / and its subject(s).
I would ask the photograph why he chose to photograph such angry subjects.
I would ask the man on the steps why he doesn’t just go to the white part.

2. This photograph was taken outside a colored movie theatre. The lighting itsn't too bright. The setting looks very rural because there aren't many people around. It looks like it is about 4 o'clock on a nice spring afternoon.

3. There are two people in this photograph. The look about 50 years old. One man is wearing a long sleeved shirt with a hat. This photo is black and white. The first thing that I see in this photograph is that they are outside of Rex Theatre for colored people.

4. This is a business of movie theatre. The windows are blocked with signs for the movies playing. There are two doors. There is another building next to the theatre.

5. This photograph is very heavy because colored and whites can't watch a movie together when they will be in the dark anyways. In my eyes, this is a negative photograph, but light in location.
6. This photograph is heavy because the colored have to have their own movie theatre. Why can't they watch movies in the same theatres as whites but they can watch movies with white people in them. There is a movie poster for a film called Randall which has white actors.

7. I would ask the photographer why he took a photograph of such a mad place. I would also ask the photographer what those people were doing.

2. This photograph was taken outside if a reasturant. This location seems to be very urban because there are cars and what looks like what could be a patio above the window. It is light outside. It probaly about 2 o'clock.

3. There are no people in this photograph . When I first looked at this photograph I saw that there were two clearly different sides for whites and colored. The white side has a curtain like they are too good for the colored to see.

4. This reasturant called the Farmers Cafe is a buusiness. The bulding and cars surrounding it seem to be in very good condition.

5. This mood is deffentily heavy because the blacks and whites can't eat together. This gives of a negative vibe.

6. This photograph is very negative because the colored and whites have to eat in different reasturants. Both reasturants look very nice, it's just that the whites are too "scared" to be with the colored. You can see that both the colored and white both have very nice cars and their color doesn't determine their amount of money.

7. I would ask the photographer why no one is in the picture. I would also ask the photographer if he supported the serpertaion of the colored and whites.

PART 2 DAY 2
This photograph shows a building titled "Hotel Clark." Under the title is the slogan, "The best service ever for colored only.” The picture was taken by Marion Post Wolcott on October of 1939 in Memphis, Tennessee. As seen in the photo, there are several black people standing outside their favoring hotel. This photograph depicts what many saw during discriminatory times. White people weren’t allowed to go to certain places and black people weren’t allowed to go to certain places. The hotel seems to be in an urban location due to the power lines and cars lining the street. The tone of this photograph could be negative. This is so because many people wouldn’t want to remember this certain time in history when people were separated because of their skin color.

PART 2 DAY 2
This photograph was taken by Marion Post Wolcott in November of 1939 in Durham, North Carolina. The photo shows a café titled “Farmers Café” during a sunny day. Above the entrance door to the café is a sign that reads “WHITE.” Inside the café are a couple of middle-aged, well-dressed white people sitting down. The café looks like it could be in an urban town. (The reflection in the window shows power lines and another building right across the street.) The tone of this picture is negative. This is so because only white people could enjoy that café, not black people.

PART 2 DAY 2
This photo graph was taken by Marion Post Wolcott in November of 1939 in Leland, Mississippi on a sunny day. The photo shows a movie theater titled, “REX THEATRE FOR COLORED PEOPLE.” Outside of the urban movie theater are two black people. I believe that the feature that catches your eye first is the “…FOR COLORED PEOPLE” part of the sign. White people know that they are not welcome to that specific movie theater. The tone of this photograph is negative. Many people distinguish discriminatory times as negative times. That is why Martin Luther King stood against those laws and succeeded in abolishing them.

This photograph was taken by Jack Delano in May of 1940 in Durham, North Carolina. This picture takes place outside in the city. It looks like it is during the day. In this picture there is a person in the window of the white side of the store. She looks like she works as a waiter at the store. What catches my eye is that it looks like one store except colored and white people have to enter on different sides of it and it says that it has two different names. The structure that is in the photo is the cafe. On the left side of the cafe there is a doorway with a sign on top that says white and on the right side of the cafe there is a doorway with a sign on top that says colored. There are also two cars infront of the cafe. There are also different stores around the cafe. The tone of the photograph is that it is dark and kind of negative. It makes me feel mad when I see this picture because it looks like the same cafe in the picture but colored and whites have to enter on different sides. I also don't think that it is right that they have to enter in different doors like that even though I know that's what it was like back then. I would ask the photographer why he took the picture of both of the signs and how he feels about this picture.

This photograph was taken by Russell Lee in July of 1939 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This picture takes place in the street car terminal which is inside. There is one african american man in the the street car terminal drinking water. He looks like he is in hes 20's or 30's. He has decent clothing. He has dress pants that are black with a white belt and a white t-shirt and hat. What catches my eye is that he has to drink from the colored water bucket and that he has pretty decent clothing on. There is a water bucket in the photo that is labeled as colored and has a cup holder next to it. It looks like it is in a little amount of space. The tone of the photograph is negative tone. It looks like the water bucket is in a tight area that has very little space. There are also two signs that point to where colored people and white people have to go which is wrong because they shouldn't be separting them in the first place. Two questions that I would ask the photographer are what are his feelings on this situation and if he supports having the signs separate colored and whites or if he thinks it is bad.

This photograph was taken by Russell Lee in November of 1939 in Waco, Texas. The setting of this photograph is outside of The Gem Theatre. It is during the day when the sun is shining. There are no people in this picture because it is just showing you the sign for The Gem Theatre and that it is an exclusive colored theatre. What catches my eye first is that it says exclusive colored theatre. In this picture is a sign that says The Gem Theatre Exclusive Colored Theatre. On the other side of the sign it looks like a coca cola advertisement. The tone of the picture is that it is negative. I don't think that there should have to be two different theatres that say that it is a white persons or a colored persons. They should just be able to share and get along with each other and not have to use two different theatres. Also, the colored theatre may not be as good as the white persons theatre. I would ask the photographer why he took a picture of this theatre sign and not a different sign. I would also ask whether or not they thought it was right to have two separate theatres for whites and colored.

This picture shows a hotel that was for blacks only. This is a picture taken by Marion Post Wolcott in Memphis, Tennessee October, 1939. This is the outside of the Clark Hotel, a popular African American hotel during the depression, at around noon. This picture shows the sadness and despair of the segregation during the Great depression.

part_2_pic_2.jpg
This picture taken by Marion Wolcott shows an African American man enteringa movie theater through a segregated entrance. This shows a man who is extremly dark and gloomy looking on an afternoon in October 1939. This sad picture shows cheap prices were in the Great Depression because it was 10 cents to get in to the show.

part2_pic_3.jpg

This picture shows racial discrimination by showing a want for blacks to not live in a community. I belive that any person should be able to live anywhere if they can afford it. This is a very sad picture. It is very dark, gloomy, and negative. It also is sad because of the American flags. It makes people believe that Americans dislike African-Americans.
